As a Clinical Psychologist practicing in South Florida. Dr. Montalvo graduatd from Montclair State University with a bachelor’s degree in Psychology and then earned my Psy.D. in Clinical Psychology from Nova Southeastern University.
During her clinical internship at the Miami-Dade County Community Action and Human Services Department, she delivered services to children in Head Start Programs and individuals with co-morbid diagnoses at a county-run substance abuse center. Her postdoctoral residency was completed at Broward Regional Health Planning Services at a jail diversion and competency restoration program. In addition to her clinical internship and residency, she has worked in various settings such as the neuropsychology department at the Miami VA and a Child and Adolescent Traumatic Stress Program. She has extensive experience working with individuals at all stages of life ranging from toddlers to older adults, diverse cultural racial and ethnic groups, English- and Spanish-speaking individuals, and families of all kinds. She have worked with clients presenting with various psychological diagnoses ranging from learning disabilities and mood disorders to personality and long-term mental illness and completed an array of testing for children and adults. She has been lauded for my sense of empathy and compassion for my clients, investment in the client’s success in treatment, and flexible approach in applying therapeutic techniques to meet the diverse needs of each individual.
Dr. Montalvo's therapeutic style is rooted in a cognitive-behavioral framework and integrates the use of mindfulness, insight, acceptance, and commitment to provoke behavioral change and improve psychiatric symptoms. Her main goal is to help clients feel supported and teach them skills to alleviate their psychological symptoms to promote a healthier and happier life.
Her passions and hobbies include helping others by getting involved with my community, mindfulness-based practices such as meditation and yoga, live music, and discovering new restaurants around the city. One fun fact about Dr. Montalvo is she helped to establish the Miami Diaper Bank, a non-profit organization that provides diapers for underprivileged families throughout South Florida.
