Glemdys Licea
Registered Mental Health Counselor Intern
Glemdys earned her bachelor’s degree from Florida State University and her master’s in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from Nova Southeastern University. She began working as a Registered Behavior Technician (RBT) during her bachelor’s and continued through her master’s, an experience she loved, while also supporting patients in an inpatient psychiatric unit during her graduate training. Her lifelong curiosity about people has always gone hand in hand with a desire to support them and meet them where they are, offering space to feel heard, understood, and comfortable being themselves. Her approach is warm, collaborative, and eclectic, drawing from different theories and techniques to help each person find what works for them and build confidence in their ability to support themselves. She loves continuing to learn and grow, both personally and professionally, and hopes to pursue a doctorate someday.

What is important to you, for your client to feel, when working with you?
I want my clients to feel that their voice matters and that they have a say in the work we do together. I also want there to be room for laughter, uncertainty, and hard days, without feeling like they have to show up a certain way for therapy.
Who do you believe you are for a client as they manage their problems?
I see myself as someone who helps clients slow things down, make sense of what’s happening, and explore what they want to do next. Sometimes that means asking a difficult question, offering another perspective, or simply being with them when there isn’t an easy answer.
What drives your passion for seeing clients?
Getting to know people beyond what they’re struggling with and seeing them begin to recognize their own strengths and possibilities. I find a lot of meaning in the small moments when a client understands themselves a little better or tries something they didn’t think they could.
How do you believe clients "get better"?
I believe clients get better as they begin to understand their patterns, try different ways of responding, and discover what helps them in everyday life. Progress looks different for everyone.
