Tia Williams

Registered Behavior Technician

Deciding to pursue her passion in the field of childcare, she became a foster mom in 2022. She worked for an agency that provided residency for children in state custody but soon realized that the agency did not address the children’s maladaptive behaviors. Instead, the agency reinforced these behaviors through monthly gifts and outings, with no immediate consequences or proactive measures to manage the children’s evolving behavioral concerns. She decided she wanted to do more than simply ensure the children’s safety. She wanted to help them grow into functional adults capable of navigating a society that may reinforce or harshly punish maladaptive behaviors.

What is important to you, for your client to feel, when working with you?

Collaboration is important to me, and it is essential that my clients feel supported by their team working in unison. It is also imperative that clients feel safe when in my presence.

Who do you believe you are for a client as they manage their problems?

I strive to be a motivating force for my clients as they navigate their challenges. I also serve as a reflection of the socially appropriate behaviors I aim to teach, helping clients demonstrate these skills as they learn and grow.

What drives your passion for seeing clients?

My passion is fueled by the understanding that the neurodivergent population simply needs someone who genuinely cares about their development and well-being. I remain dedicated to seeing my clients grow, knowing that one day they will recognize that a team of people devoted their lives to helping them gain the skills and independence needed to navigate daily challenges.

How do you believe clients "get better"?

I believe my clients improve with consistency. They benefit from my flexible approach to therapy, which is evident in my continuous effort to utilize various techniques until the intervention most effective for their development is identified.

“Therapy is a gift. It is a chance to finally be heard, understood, and supported.” Bessel Van Der Kolk

Personal Hobbies

When I am not working, I enjoy swimming, yoga, and engrossing myself in novels. I tend to spend the majority of my time lounging in my hammock at the beach or finding a park for a sunset nap. To bring my self-care to a close, I find time to reflect through writing or audio journaling.
